Any Christmas market needs a Christmas tree and the Krakow Christmas Market is no exception.

Krakow’s Main Square is the favoured home for the city’s Christmas tree and it’s usual location is by the side of the Sukiennice Cloth Hall. Typically around 15m in height the spruce tree will be decorated with over 26,000 energy saving lights (which are claimed to use less electricity than a household kettle!)

The tree normally goes up sometime in November but do not be disappointed if you don’t see any lights on it yet as there is a special ceremony for lighting the Christmas tree on 6th December 2024 (St Nicholas day) at 17:30.

The event is marked by music, competitions and other activities and is regarded as the official start of the Christmas season in Krakow.

There will also be smaller Christmas trees dotted around the various districts of Krakow
